In last night’s game, the Spruce Grove Saints tied the series at one with a 6-3 win over the Brooks Bandits!
The first period was a back-and-forth battle between the two rivals. Early into the frame, Luigi Benincasa (Edmonton, AB) put one home to open up the scoring. Less than a minute later, Caelan Fitzpatrick scored to tie the game at one. Then, the Saints got a powerplay, in which Liam Watkins (Okotoks, AB) capitalized to put Spruce Grove up 2-1. A few minutes after Watkins’ goal, Heath Armstrong scored on the powerplay to again tie the game.
Halfway through the middle frame, Carter Oakenfold (Calgary, AB) netted one home to once again, put the Saints up by one. Soon after, Breck McKinley (Edmonton, AB) sniped one on net to give the Saints a 4-2 lead! Then, with less than two minutes left in the period, Aiden Fink scored to bring the Bandits back within one.
The third period was nothing short of a nail-biter. With a hard-fought battle for most of the final frame, the Saints ended up capitalizing on two empty-netters with less than two minutes left in the game. Isaac Abbott (Halifax, NS) would get the first empty-net goal, and Watkins would get his second of the night which also happened to be an empty-netter.
The Spruce Grove Saints went on to defeat the Brooks Bandits in a 6-3 win! With the series tied at one, games three and four will go in Spruce Grove.
