Third Period Explosion Leads Saints To 8-5 Win On Saturday Night

(Spruce Grove, AB) – In last night’s second of a back-to-back, where Nathan Hawkins (Lethbridge, AB) achieved three points, the Spruce Grove Saints defeated the Drayton Valley Thunder with a final score of 8-5!

In the past couple of games, the first periods have been uneventful. However, the starting period last night was the exact opposite. Four minutes into the period, Ewan McPherson (Edmonton, AB) scored on the powerplay to put the Saints up by one. Soon after McPherson’s goal, Cody Pisarczyk scored on the powerplay to tie the game at one. Thirty-five seconds later, Breck McKinley (St. Albert, AB) nets one home to put the Saints up by one again. Less than a minute after McKinley’s goal, Pisarczyk scored on the powerplay to tie the game at two-a-piece. Then, with a minute left in the period, Gavin Middendorf scored for the Thunder to put them up by one. 

Almost halfway through the second period, Isaac Abbott (Halifax, NS) scored on the powerplay to tie the game at three. Less than twenty seconds after Abbotts’ goal, Middendorf scored his second of the night to take back the lead 4-3 for Drayton Valley. 

Beginning the third period, McPherson scored just fourteen seconds into the period to tie the game at four! Five minutes later, Brendan Mairs scored to take back the lead for the Thunder. Soon after Mairs’ goal, Nathan Hawkins (Lethbridge, AB) sniped his first AJHL goal to tie the game at five-a-piece! Simon Lovsin (Stony Plain, AB) then scored to put the Saints up 6-5. With just over a minute left in the period, Kadyn Chabot (Cranbrook, BC) scored his second as a Saint. Then, Ethan Kronewitt (Stony Plain, AB) banked the empty netter to seal the game.
