T.J. Lloyd named CJHL?s Top Defenceman for 2018-19

TJ Lloyd Wins CJHL Defenceman of the Year

(Spruce Grove, AB) ? The Spruce Grove Saints are thrilled to announce Team captain and third year Saint TJ Lloyd has been named the 2018-2019 CJHL?s Top Defenceman!

Lloyd earns the distinction of top defenseman honors by beating fellow finalists, James Miller, Penticton (BCHL); Zack Hoffman, Navan (CCHL); Marc?Éric Bourque, Princeville (LHJAAAQ); and Kyle Auger, Thunder Bay (SIJHL) as the winner of a ballot voting process by the 10 CJHL member leagues.

TJ won the W.G. (Bill) Scott Memorial Trophy as the Alberta Junior Hockey League?s Outstanding Defenceman in 2018-19. The award is given to the defensive player who demonstrates the greatest all-round ability in the position throughout the season. In 53 games played, Lloyd compiled 11 goals, 34 assists, 28 penalty minutes and 3 game winning goals, while being an always reliable defensive presence on the blue line. Lloyd was also a finalist for the award in the 2017-18 season.

TJ captained Team Canada West at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge, which was his second appearance in the international tournament after capturing Gold with the 2017 Team Canada West team. He was selected as the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week in October 2018.

The 19-year-old, who hails from Lloydminster, AB just completed his final season with the Saints leading them to a second consecutive AJHL final after being a pivotal piece to the AJHL Championship won by the Saints in 2018. He departs the Saints organization after committing to Bowling Green State University (NCAA) for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.
