Saints Wrap Up 2020-2021 Season In Brooks

By: Terry Martin

The Saints came into tonight’s game looking to win the cohort series against the Brooks Bandits after winning game 1 and dropping game 2. This game marked the final game of the AJHL season for both clubs and the league, the Saints looked to come out on top after a roller coaster of a year.

The Bandits would do what they did in the first period of the first game, take an early lead and dominate on the shot clock. The Saints would do a good job defending and weathering the storm with the help of Tyler Palmer. The Bandits first goal would come from Chris Pappas just 42 seconds into the game and the score would remain the same until the horn sounded. The Bandits would also lead in shots 19-6 after 20 minutes.

The second period saw the Bandits scoring early once again, this time McAllister would find himself in the slot and bury the puck 1:38 into the period. Brayden Krieger, Zach Bookman, and Brendan Kennette all scored later on in the period to bring the Bandit lead to 5-0 after 40 minutes of play. Brooks would also still lead in shots after the period 37-9.

The Saints would get on the board in the third period as Gamache finished off a rebound after a crazy bounce in the Bandit crease. Taylor Makar would then come down the left side and slide puck into the net to bring the Bandits lead to 6-1 with 2:19 left in the game. The score would remain the same as the Saints season ends this afternoon in Brooks. Final shots were in favour of the Bandits 53-16.

The Spruce Grove Saints would like to thank our players, staff, partners and volunteers for the wildest season in Saints history.

Take care and stay safe everyone.
