(Spruce Grove, AB) – In last night’s evenly matched contest, the Spruce Grove Saints defeated the Sherwood Park Crusaders in a 5-3 conclusion!
Seven minutes into the first period, Ethan Leyer (St.Albert, AB) rifled one home to put the Saints up by one. Thirty seconds after Leyer’s goal, Ethan Kronewitt (Stony Plain, AB) tipped one in to give the Saints a two-goal lead.
With the Saints being on the penalty kill for most of the second period, there weren’t many quality scoring chances. However, just over halfway through the period, Kadyn Chabot (Cranbrook, BC) scored on the four-on-four opportunity to put the Saints up by three!
The third period was a nail-biter. Two minutes in, Brock Souch scored for the Crusaders to give them life. Then, halfway through the period, Luke Munroe scored to bring Sherwood Park within one goal. Less than a minute after Munroe’s goal, Zac Maxwell tipped one in to tie the game at three-a-piece. Then, just when everyone thought the game was headed to overtime, Morgan Brady (Woking, AB) scored to take back the lead for the Saints. Soon after Brady’s goal, Liam Watkins (Okotoks, AB) got the empty-netter to put the nail in the coffin!
With Brady getting the game-winner, the Saints marched on to be victorious over the Crusaders in a 5-3 win!
