The Saints took a 3-1 Series lead in dramatic fashion last night defeating the Sherwood Park Crusaders 6-5 in double overtime. Lead by 3 point nights from Dylan Richard and Sammy Spurrell and two timely goals from Jarid Hauptman the Saints put together an impressive effort that earned them a two game lead in the North Division Semi Final series. The Saints trailed the Crusaders twice in the game before Kevin Lacroix tied the contest with 4:01 to go in the third period. The Saints and Crusaders exchanged thrilling attempts on each other's goal with both goalies standing tall and turning away all chances. A gritty and heads-up play by big Saints' forward Devon McAndrews enabled him to slide the puck past Crusaders goaltender Matt Tomkins just under 5 minutes into the second overtime period. Saints goaltender Kenny Cameron got his third straight win in the post season making some game saving stops late in the game and in to overtime. The two big wins on the road put the Saints in a position to end the series when it returns to the Grant Fuhr Arena for game #5 Wednesday night. The Crusaders will not be written off as they came back from a 9-1 stomping in game 3 to one shot away from a big rebound win in game 4.
Game #5 of the North Division Final Series will go Wednesday night 7pm at the Grant Fuhr Arena. Game #6 is scheduled for Friday March 22nd and game #7 Sunday March 24th if necessary.
