The Spruce Grove Saints took game one of the North Division Final as they defeated the Bonnyville Pontiacs by a final score of 3-2!
Just over halfway through the first period, Matteo Giampa scored the game’s first goal to put the Pontiacs up by one. The Saints and Pontiacs would continue to battle the rest of the first frame; however, Giampa’s goal would remain the only goal of the period.
Ethan Leyer (St.Albert, AB) got the only goal of the middle frame when he put one home to tie the game at one.
Eight minutes into the third period, Trey Funk scored a powerplay goal to again take the lead for the Pontiacs. Soon after, Liam Watkins (Okotoks, AB) netted one home to tie the game at 2-2 and send the game to overtime!
With one powerplay opportunity for both teams, the Saints were the ones who capitalized and won! Isaac Abbott (Halifax, NS) scored with three minutes left to get the overtime winner! The Saints went on to defeat the Pontiacs in game one by a conclusion of 3-2!
