The Spruce Grove Saints are extremely proud to announce their leadership group for the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season. Forward Graham Gamache will wear the “C” while forwards Jacob Rochford and Jake Aston as well as defencemen Logan Acheson will serve as Assistant Captains.
2002 born Gamache, who has committed to the University of Minnesota-Mankato is in his second full year with the Saints after having a breakout rookie campaign where he put up 50 points in 53 games played.
Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk spoke about his new Captain and says, “Graham’s ability to motivate his teammates and his never quit attitude make him the ideal choice to wear the C. Ever since Graham came to us as an affiliate in 2019, he has been a driving force within the Saints organization, both on and off the ice.”
Logan Acheson has played 61 career AJHL games where he has become a go-to shutdown defenseman for the Saints. The 2002 born defender is a proven leader and will be a great addition to the Saints leadership group.
Saints Assistant Coach Derrick Martin spoke about Acheson putting on a letter and says, “Logan has been hard working and determined from day one. He is the textbook team player and very coachable.”
Jacob Rochford will also serve as an Assistant Captain for the remainder of the season. Rochford, who was acquired from the Komoka Kings of the GOJHL (Greater Ontario Hockey League) in the 2020 offseason, has just under 100 career junior hockey games played and has made an immediate impact with the Saints.
Sklaruk was excited to give a letter to Rochford and says, “Jacob was a player that we had our eyes on for a long time, and last offseason the pieces came together to bring him into our program here in Spruce Grove. He has already made a lasting impact on our organization and I am thrilled to give him a letter.”
Rounding out the leadership group is veteran 2000 born forward Jake Aston. Aston has spent three seasons in the AJHL split between the Drayton Valley Thunder and the Spruce Grove Saints.
Head Coach Bram Stephen spoke about his veteran forward and says, “Jake’s experience throughout his career and hardworking attitude has without a doubt helped the Saints on and off the ice. A guy who does things the right way to show our younger players the work ethic and drive on our team is going to pay dividends throughout the season.”
The Saints rekindle their rivalry with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons starting this Friday, March 12th as they play the first of eight games against the Oil Barons throughout the next four weekends. Under the AJHL Return to Play guidelines, no fans are permitted within the arena. However, fans can catch all the action on the Saints Radio Network (mixlr.com/sprucegrovesaints) and on HockeyTV.
