(Spruce Grove, AB) – Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today defenseman Nathan Hawkins has signed a Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
The Lethbridge, Alberta native has spent this season with the South Alberta Hockey Academy (SAHA) in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) U18 Division. Hawkins has tallied nine points through 18 games played (2 goals, 7 assists). The South Alberta Hockey Academy is currently 18-6-2 this season, which has earned them second place in the CSSSHL U18 Division standings.
Hawkins, who is listed at 6’0” and 170lbs, played two games with the Saints this season. On November 12th, 2022 against the Drayton Valley Thunder, Hawkins tallied three-points, including his first goal AJHL goal, propelling the Saints to an 8-5 win.
General Manager Rob Sklaruk is thrilled to add the talented blueliner for the upcoming season, saying “ Hawkins has the potential to develop into a solid two-way defender and is capable of playing in all situations. He is a strong puck mover because of his elite hockey IQ and vision. I am very excited to have Nathan join our group for next season.”

The Saints are currently 35-7-4 this season, sitting at the top of the AJHL’s North Division standings. The team will embark on a three-game road trip beginning Friday in Olds, carrying into next Tuesday in Lloydminster and finishing up next Friday in Whitecourt. The Saints will then return home for a three-game homestand, taking on the Olds Grizzlys, Camrose Kodiaks and Canmore Eagles on February 7th, 10th and 11th respectively.
