SAINTS LOCK UP BRYSON AIKENS FOR UPCOMING SEASON

(Spruce Grove, AB) – Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today forward Bryson Aikens has signed a Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

The Briercrest, Saskatchewan native plays with Prairie Hockey Academy in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s U18 Division. Aikens has compiled 18 goals and 44 points this season through 31 games played and is 9th overall in the CSSHL scoring race. The Prairie Hockey Academy has already clinched a playoff berth for the upcoming post season, sitting 7th in the CSSHL U18 West Division Standings with a record of 16-10-3.

The 2006-born forward, who is listed at 6’0” and 150lbs, will become the second player recruited by the Saints from Prairie Hockey Academy, joining current Saint defenseman Jed Magarrell, who played at PHA in 2019-2020.

General Manager Rob Sklaruk spoke about locking up the high flying forward for the upcoming campaign saying, “Bryson is a good-sized player, who possesses a high compete in all three zones. He consistently puts up numbers, skates extremely well and has a high hockey IQ. We have been following Bryson since the beginning of this season and have been extremely impressed with his development path.”

The Spruce Grove Saints have clinched the top spot in the AJHL’s North Division, earning them a first round bye with a record of 44-7-4. The Saints only have five games remaining in the regular season, taking on the Fort McMurray Oil Barons twice and the Sherwood Park Crusaders three times. The Saints will await the lowest remaining seed after round one and will start their quest for a sixth AJHL Championship on March 24th at the Grant Fuhr Arena.
