The Spruce Grove Saints lost their first regular season game as they fell 4-3 to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
Early into the first frame, the newly-appointed Captain, Ryder Matter (Leduc, AB), scored against his former team to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Liam Rodman got a deflection to tie the game. With the end of the period nearing, Evan Arnold scored to give the Oil Barons a 2-1 lead. Then, with just three seconds left in the period, Hunter Brown (Fort St John, BC) scored to tie the game at two.
Carter Oakenfold (Calgary, AB) opened the scoring early into the second period to give the Saints a 3-2 lead. Soon after, Nik Hoogendorn put one home to once again tie the game. Halfway through the frame, Keefe Gruener scored to grant the Oil Barons a 4-3 lead.
Although the final period was a hard-fought battle, the Saints ended up falling to the Oil Barons in a 4-3 conclusion.
