The Saints started their four game road trip up in Grande Prairie with a back-to-back battle with the Storm.
Grande Prairie’s Dayne Tews opened up the scoring just a few minutes into the 1st period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. The Saints would answer back late in the frame as Grant Fuchsen (Elmhurst, IL) would fire a snap shot home from the high slot to equalize the game a 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. Fuchsen scoring his first as a member of the Spruce Grove Saints in the period.
Five minutes into period two, the Storm’s newly acquired Alex Atwill would finish off a backdoor play to put Grande Prairie back in front, 2-1. Penalties would fill the rest of the period, as the Storm took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes of play. The shots after two periods were 19-11 for the Storm.
Four minutes into the final frame, Ethan Leyer (St. Albert, AB) drew a turnover downlow and then fed the puck to the low slot for Keifer Miller, who made no mistake, putting home his 3rd of the season to tie the hockey game at 2-2. Just 2 minutes later, Ayden Peters would score again for Grande Prairie, giving the Storm the lead back at 3-2. With just 2:39 left to play, the Storm captain Ty Toews scored to put the Storm on top 4-2.
The Saints pushed late, but were not able to find another marker, as Spruce Grove fell by a final score of 4-2.
The Saints are back in action tomorrow night, once again taking on the Grande Prairie Storm at 6:00pm. Fans can catch all the action on HockeyTV.
