The Saints looked to continue their hot streak tonight against the Drayton Valley Thunder as they chased their 14th win in a row. Spruce Grove recently defeated the Wolverines earlier this week, and after tonight’s home game they will be on the road until the end of November. The Thunder currently sit 4th in the AJHL North Division with 30 points and came into tonight’s contest on a two-game win streak. The Saints are also 3-0 against the Thunder this season, with their most recent win happening at the end of October.
The Thunder would hop out to a quick 2-0 lead after a tip in front of the net by Kadyn Chabot and then a breakaway goal from Drew Sutton. Jed Magarrell would make it a one goal game after firing the puck home from the blueline for his first career AJHL goal. Drew Sutton would then get his second goal of the game on a power play opportunity as he was left alone on the right side. The Saints would trail 3-1 on the scoreboard and 8-13 in shots heading into the second period.
The Saints would strike back early with two quick goals of their own to start the second period. Brett Pfoh would fire the puck far side to bring the team back with in one goal, Cade Mason would then be the one to tie the game after sniping the puck low glove. Jacob Rochford would then give the Saints their first lead of the game after one-timing the puck from the slot. Within 1:16 the Saints would go from trailing by 2 to leading by 1. Cody Pisarczyk would then score the teams 5th goal, after threading the needle from the goal line. Liam Watkins would then make it a 3-goal game with under a minute left in the period and the Saints would head into the third period leading 6-3. The Saints would also dominate in shots, keeping the Thunder to only a couple shots in the period.
Both teams would stay off the score sheet until the last couple minutes of the game. Brody Tallman would score on a power play opportunity to bring the Thunder within 2. The Saints would seal the game a few seconds later as Gault would score on the empty net. Watkins would then add to the lead in the dying seconds after a beautiful set up from Davis. The Saints would win 8-4 and double up the Thunder in shots 38-19.
