The Saints and Oil Barons took on each other for the 4th time this season as they continue to battle for 1st place in the North. The Oil Barons have won 2 of 3 games so far this season but the Saints have the most recent victory at home back in December. Brett Pfoh is on an impressive 15 game point streak as he looked to extend that this afternoon. The Oil Barons are coming off a loss to the Blackfalds Bulldogs last night as they looked to bounce back this afternoon.
Caiden Gault would open the scoring just a couple minutes into the game, firing the puck glove side for his 51st point of the season. Jacob Rochford would then tip in the puck from the slot on the power play to put the Saints up 2-0. Tristan Martin would stand tall for the rest of the period making some great glove saves to preserve the lead for the Saints. Spruce Grove would also lead 12-8 on the shot clock after 20 minutes of play.
Brett Pfoh would be the one to open the scoring in this period, just sneaking the puck through the arm of the Oil Barons goaltender. With that goal Pfoh extends his point streak to 16 games, dating back to November. Max McCoy would get that one back as he was left alone in the slot and scores a shorthanded goal with 12 minutes left in the period. Jaden Senkoe would then score on their next power play, tipping the puck under the arm of the goalie. Cody Pisarczyk would score a buzzer beater after a scramble in front of the net to give the Saints a 5-1 lead. Spruce Grove would still lead 27-12 in shots after 2 periods of play.
Brendan Wang would get the first goal of the 3rd period after a weird bounce off the dasher board to make it a 5-2 game. Caiden Gault would then find himself alone in front of the net and dangles around the Oil Barons goaltender to get his 2nd goal of the game. Logan Acheson would then score on a power play with a rocket from the top of the circle. The Saints would go on to win 7-2 and extend their lead over the Oil Barons in the division. Final shots favoured the Saints after 60 minutes, 36-17.
The Spruce Grove Saints will go on a quick 2-game road trip as they visit the Grande Prairie Storm on Tuesday and the Whitecourt Wolverines on Wednesday.
