(Spruce Grove, AB) ?The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce the signing of 2001 born defenseman Salvatore Bertucci for the 2020-2021 season.
Bertucci, who hails from Montreal, QC. Played the last 2 seasons at Trinity College School in the CAHS hockey league. Holding the role of team Captain, the 5?11? 165 pound right shot defender posted 9 goals, 28 assists and 106 penalty minutes in 56 games played last season.
Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk spoke on the incoming recruit.
?Salvatore is welcome addition to the Saints. Anytime you can add a captain to your program it becomes a no brainer. It (being a captain) proves a level of commitment and accountability within a player that others may not have. We value that, it lends well to the continuity of our culture.? Stated Sklaruk who then went on to give his analysis on Bertucci.
?Salvatore is a smooth skater and very good on his edges. He plays the game with a chip on his shoulder, has a nastiness to his game but certainly is no slouch offensively. He?s a well-rounded defenseman that Saints fans should be excited about. We are thrilled to add Salvatore to the Saints.? Sklaruk finished.
After officially signing with the Saints, Bertucci discussed his decision in signing in Spruce Grove.
?I chose the Saints after seeing all the great players who have come out of this organization and pursued their career in hockey. I don?t think that there is a better organization that will allow me to grow and develop as a hockey player.? Exclaimed Bertucci
?I spoke with a good friend of mine who played on the team last year and he told me that the staff really cares about the players as individuals and want to support them with whatever needs they have. That is what I am looking for in a team, for them to be able to help me develop as much as I am capable of.? Said Bertucci.
The soon to be 19 year-old (July,8th) then gave a scouting report on himself.
?I?m a player who works extremely hard on and off the ice no matter what the situation. I pride myself in my never give up attitude. When it comes to my playing style, I can play both sides of the blue line, I?m not afraid to skate up with the puck and support the offence but I?m responsible with high risk plays in my own zone to limit turn-overs. I am also a physical player and not afraid to impose my body on the forwards coming down the ice.? says Bertucci.
Finally, Bertucci highlighted the Saints faithful.
?I have heard that the fans in Spruce Grove are incredible and so much fun to be around which I can?t wait to experience for myself. I cannot wait for the fall and to be a Saint.? Bertucci concluded.
The Saints would like to welcome Salvatore and Bertucci family to the organization.
