(Spruce Grove, AB) – Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today the club has acquired defenseman Tanner Dawkins from the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in exchange for a player development fee.
Dawkins joins the Saints after spending the previous two seasons with the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL, where he appeared in 79 games, compiling 22 points (2 goals, 20 assists) and 41 penalty minutes.
Prior to his junior career, the Cloverdale, BC native developed in the British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL) with the Valley West Giants program, where he played U16AAA and U18AAA over a span of four seasons. During his time with the Giants, Dawkins played 76 games, putting up 26 points (5 goals, 21 assists) along with 12 penalty minutes.
The 19-year-old right-handed shooting blueliner is listed at 5’11”, 170 pounds and will join the Saints tomorrow, prior to their game vs. Lloydminster.
General Manager Rob Sklaruk spoke about the newest addition to his team, saying “We are very thrilled to add a veteran right-handed defencemen to our club. Dawkins plays the game hard, he defends well, transports the puck and will certainly fit into our structure and culture.”
The Saints would like to welcome Tanner and the Dawkins family to the organization.
Spruce Grove is currently 31-6-3 this season and sit in first place in the AJHL’s North Division. The Saints are in the middle of a four-game homestand, facing off against the Lloydminster Bobcats tomorrow night, the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Friday night and wrapping up the homestand next Tuesday vs. Whitecourt.
