SAINTS AND CANUCKS SWAP DEFENCEMEN

Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today the club has acquired defenceman Damon Byers from the Calgary Canucks in exchange for defenceman Lucas Watkins and future considerations.

Byers, a native of Edson, Aberta, played 12 games for the Canucks last season, notching three points (1G, 2A) and 16 penalty minutes. The 19-year-old also played one game with the Amarillo Bulls in the North American Hockey League.

Rob Sklaruk was happy with the acquisition and says, “Damon is a very good skater who is going to bring a stable presence to our back end. He’s a reliable junior player with some offensive skill, which fits into our style of play quite well.”

The Spruce Grove Saints start their quest for a 6th Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Championship at home against the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Sept 17th at 7:00pm.
