Saints Alumni Pursues Excellence…

After leading the Spruce Grove Saints to back to back AJHL Championships in 2010 & 2011, Vincenzo Morozzi sought a higher level of excellence in hockey and did what very few can; achieved it.

After spending a season tending the twine for the Cornell University Big Red, Vincenzo decided to turn professional, and turned to his roots in Italy and play in the Italian Elite A League for Asiago.

During the 2012-13 season, Vincenzo sported excellent numbers (2.32 GAA & .920 SAV%) that we in Spruce Grove became accustomed to seeing.  And to top that, last week Vincenzo backstopped his Asiago team to a 1 – 0 victory while facing 37 shots for the shutout.

For those not familiar with the Italian Elite A league, The Supercoppa Italiana (Italian Super Cup) is contested by the winners of the Serie A and the Coppa Italia in the previous season, as a curtain raiser to the new season. It is usually played at the home of the Serie A champions which in this case was in Asiago.

For the team win awards, a player receives a jacket that has logos of all the players junior team origins.  Vincenzo was awarded that jacket yesterday and as you can see, Spruce Grove is front to the left.

Congratulations Vincenzo!
