Saints Add Whillans To Roster

Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today, 19-year-old forward Kye Whillans, formerly of the Drayton Valley Thunder, has signed and joined the Saints active roster.

Whillans, who hails from Grande Prairie, Alberta, spent the 2019-2020 season as a member of the Thunder where he collected two goals, five assists and 32 penalty minutes in 41 AJHL contests. He also suited up in five games for the Whitecourt Wolverines in the 2018-2019 season, as an affiliated player when he was a member of the Norther Alberta X-Treme Prep team (CSSHL).

The left shooting Whillans is listed at 5’11″, 170 pounds and plays a hard-nosed style game.

Sklaruk felt giving the former point per game U18 player was a great opportunity and says, “Kye seemed to always have his best games at the Grant Fuhr arena and we hope that continues.” There is a lot to like about Kye’s game. When he is at his best he plays with a chip on his shoulder, which leads to creating offense and wreaking havoc on opponents. We are excited to add Kye to our team.”

Whillans is currently in the Government of Alberta approved AJHL return to play protocols and will join the Saints when he has met all requirements and can safely do so.
