SAINTS ACQUIRE PAIR

(Spruce Grove, AB) Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today the club has acquired two defensemen in separate transactions from each of the bordering provinces of Alberta.

First, 2002 born defenceman Chase Oliver (Scottsdale, AZ) was brought in from the Notre Dame Hounds of the SJHL (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League) for a player development fee. Oliver never actually suited up for the Hounds as he was acquired from the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League) where he spent the 2018-19 season. In 41 BCHL games, the 6?1? 170-pound left shooting defenseman registered three assists and 43 penalty minutes.

Head Coach Bram Stephen touched on the incoming defender, ?Chase is a competitive, smooth skating defenseman who blocks shots, makes simple plays and moves the puck. His skating is definitely his biggest asset and he has lots of room to develop his skills further. His experience and leadership will help our young core of defensemen and we expect him to play meaningful minutes for us this year.?

Finally, in a trade that was completed yesterday, the Saints acquired 2002 born defenceman Brophy Dunne (Prince George, BC) from the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL for a player development fee. The 6?0? 201 pound left shooting blue liner notched two goals, nine assists and 61 penalty minutes in 56 games last season.

Coach Stephen likes what he has seen with the strong 2 way potential Dunne adds to the back end, ?Brophy plays the game heavy in both ends of the rink. He possesses a heavy shot we hope can create opportunities offensively for our group and he also defends with physicality. His size is an asset and he isn?t afraid to use it to his advantage.
