(Spruce Grove, AB) – Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today the club has completed a three-team trade, acquiring forward Carson Whyte from the Camrose Kodiaks.
The Saints moved the rights of 2003-born forward Caden Cabana to the Lloydminster Bobcats for future considerations. To complete the deal, the Bobcats moved goaltender Freddie Halyk to the Kodiaks.
At 5’9, 179lbs, Whyte is in his third season of junior hockey, dressing in 37 games this season with the Kodiaks, tallying 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists).
The Regina, SK product has played 105 career games in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and has produced 30 goals, 62 assists for 92 total points. Whyte is expected to join the team prior to tomorrow night’s game in Whitecourt.
Prior to his time with the Kodiaks, Whyte developed with the Regina Pat Canadians program, where he appeared in 92 career games, compiling 40 goals, 48 assists for 88 points in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL).
The Saints organization would like to thank Caden and his family for his time and contributions to the club and wish him all the best as he moves on to the Bobcats and continues his hockey career.
The Saints open a 4-game homestand on Sunday afternoon with a 2:00pm showdown against the Grande Prairie Storm. Cabana will then return to the Grant Fuhr on Wednesday, Jan 11th when the Saints host the Lloydminster Bobcats. The homestand continues on Friday, Jan 13th, with a tilt vs. Bonnyville and then a Tuesday, Jan 17th match vs. Whitecourt.
