Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today that the club has signed 20-year-old defenseman Braeden Virtue for the 2021-2022 season.

Virtue has spent the last four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) splitting time with the Quebec Remparts, Gatineau Olympiques and Charlottetown Islanders. During his time in the QMJHL, Virtue played 152 games, notching four goals, 18 assists and 190 penalty minutes.

The 6’1”, 192lbs, right shot defenceman hails from Worcester, Massachusetts, and is the son of former pro defenseman Terry Virtue. Terry played over 15 years of pro hockey, most notably with the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers.

Head Coach Bram Stephen had this to say about the team’s newest blueliner, “Braeden brings junior hockey experience to our back end that will be noticeable and incredibly beneficial to our team. He’s steady and moves well and will undoubtedly be a versatile player on our back end that can handle lots of responsibility.”

The Spruce Grove Saints start their quest for a 6th Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Championship at home against the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Sept 17th at 7:00pm.
