Biro Commits to Colorado College

The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce 3rd year forward and Assistant Captain Jordan Biro has committed to Colorado College for the 2020-2021 season. The Tigers, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado compete in the NCHC (National Collegiate Hockey Conference) and have 20 NCAA Tournament appearances resulting in 10 Frozen Fours and 2 NCAA Championship to the programs credit.

As a member of the Saints, Biro has improved his game and overall point totals in each of his 3 seasons in Spruce Grove. As a rookie in 17-18 the Sherwood park product tallied 8 goals, 24 assists for 32 points and 10 penalty minutes in 50 games played. In the playoffs Biro took off by registering 3 goals and 7 assists in 13 games enroute to an AJHL Championship.

In Biro’s second season, due to his rookie season success, he saw a lot more attention from opposing teams, making life on the 5’7” 148 pound left shot forward a lot tougher. He followed his freshman season up with 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points in 55 games.

General Manager Rob Sklaruk explained how Jordan’s development curve and what ultimately led to his commitment.

“Jordan has always had elite level skill and vision, everyone knew that. Since coming to the Saints he has put an immense amount of effort into becoming a better all-around player and honing his skills away from the puck and in battle situations.” Stated Sklaruk.

“He (Jordan) has gotten stronger and learned how to use his frame to win more 1 on 1 puck battles against bigger, stronger players and that’s translated into more success for him. He’s excellent in the face off circle, also something he’s worked diligently on. More than anything Jordan has stayed focused for 3 seasons on becoming a complete player each an every day. That’s what being a Saint is and Jordan, like many others before him, is proof of the Saints way, he is now part of our legacy. Jordan will do great things for Colorado College, we are very proud of him.” Sklaruk Finished

In a season that has been cut unexpectedly short, Biro posted his best regular season statistics of his career with 15 goals and 29 assists. He was turning heads again in the playoffs, torching the first round with 8 points (1 goal, 7 assists) in 6 games and on pace to shatter his previous playoff scoring pace. All of this was further proof that “Mr.OT” was always front and center in the big games with 5 game winning goals in 37 playoff contests which included a total of 24 points on 10 goals and 14 assists.

Head Coach Bram Stephen praised the internal fortitude of Biro and was thrilled to see him realize his goals.

“We are incredibly happy for Jordan and his commitment to Colorado College. Jordan has a winning mindset and resume.” Stephen noted. “He’s (Biro) resilient and handles adversity with maturity and poise. He’s incredibly smart and tough mentally and I believe he’ll achieve great things at the next level because of that. Jordan comes from a great family we are so happy for them with his accomplishment.” Exclaimed Stephen.

When asked about Colorado College, Biro’s excitement was apparent.

”Becoming a Tiger was extremely enticing for me. I was fortunate to have success and win a championship with the Saints and that’s something I want to try and do with the Tigers. In speaking with the coaches, there will be every opportunity for me to play a key role in helping build the program back to being a top team in the country. It’s a challenge, but one that I am driven to succeed at.” Exclaimed Biro.

Biro continued when asked about the campus life and his new home.

“The team will have a brand new state of the art arena after my freshman year, Colorado Springs is a beautiful place to live and the education is top notch. All of that made my decision very easy.” Stated Biro.

With the excitement of his commitment, Biro came to a pause when reflecting on his time as a Saint.

“It’s definitely a bittersweet day for me and my family. My brother was a Saint and won a championship and then for myself to follow and do the same, we have many fond memories of Spruce Grove. Leaving will be tough, the fans and the city mean a lot to me. I cannot thank everyone in the Saints organization enough for believing in me and helping me get to this point. I especially want to thank my family and friends, I am excited to start this new chapter, thank you Spruce Grove.” Biro finished.

Biro will be the first Saint to attend Colorado College. His commitment grows the list of current Saints with an NCAA Division I Scholarship to nine.

The entire Saints organization want to congratulate Jordan and his family on his achievement.
