Spruce Grove, AB – The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce that third year forward Logan Ganie has committed to Michigan Tech University for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

Ganie will suit up for the Huskies hockey program located in Houghton, Michigan, in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Huskies have 13 NCAA tournament appearances and three National Championships to the program’s credit. He also joins current Saints teammate and childhood friend Parker Saretsky on the Huskies roster as both will begin their collegiate careers together at Michigan Tech next season.

The 5’10” 190 pound Irma, AB product was a fan favourite for Saints fans, producing many highlight reel plays and always rising to the occasion when it mattered most.

2018-2019 was statistically Ganie’s best season of his junior career, posting 53 points in 54 games with a stat line of 24 goals, 29 assists and 24 pims. He followed his strong regular season play with an impressive playoff run, leading all Saints players and placing second in league playoff scoring with 5 goals and 14 assists in 18 playoff games.

Saints GM Rob Sklaruk feels Michigan Tech got a steal of a player in Ganie. “When the season is on the line and the games matter most, Logan Ganie is the player you want on the ice. He has out produced many players in the past two seasons who had scholarships in hand, it is very fulfilling to see him get rewarded for his efforts.” Sklaruk continued, “Logan is an absolute gamer who is a proven scorer that isn’t afraid to go to the dirty areas. Michigan Tech is going to be very happy to have landed Logan on their team. He knows what it takes to win and we are so proud of him, he deserves this scholarship,” exclaimed Sklaruk.

In three seasons with the Saints organization, Ganie compiled 50 goals, 70 assists and 64 penalty minutes in 160 games played. He added 14 goals, 20 assists and 16 penalty minutes in 41 playoff games with a 2018 AJHL Championship as well.

Head Coach Bram Stephen gave his thoughts on hearing the news of Ganie committing.

“We are incredibly proud that Logan wore a Saints jersey the past three seasons. His ability to play in the big games and the immense impact he had in those crucial moments will allow him to thrive at the next level,” remarked Stephen.

“He is extremely deserving of this accomplishment. The mark he has made and the legacy he has left as a Saint won’t soon be forgotten. We wish him nothing but the best and cannot wait to follow his career as a Huskie,” Stephen finished.

Ganie is the third Saint to commit to an NCAA Division I program this season and 7th 2018-2019 Saints roster player with a Division I scholarship.
