(Canmore, AB) – In Friday night’s 6-1 victory over the Canmore Eagles, Ewan McPherson (Edmonton, AB) scored two goals, and Jameson Kaine (Vancouver, BC) stopped 30/31 shots!
The first period was uneventful, with no goals and only a few penalties late in the period.
The second period was the complete opposite of the first, with the Saints getting goals from three players! Liam Watkins (Okotoks, AB) began the scoring train by netting his eighth of the season and putting the Saints up by one. A few minutes after his goal, Ewan McPherson scored his first of the night on the powerplay. Then, with two minutes left in the period, Luigi Benincasa (Edmonton, AB) got an unbelievable feed from Kadyn Chabot (Cranbrook, BC) to end the second with the Saints leading 3-0.
The third period was just as intense as the second with three more Saints goals! Halfway through the period, the Eagles got assessed a double minor for spearing, which led to McPherson scoring his second of the night on the powerplay. Two minutes after McPherson’s goal, Isaac Abbott (Halifax, NS) fired one home to put the Saints up by five! Soon after Abbott’s goal, Mason Bueckert denied a shutout for Kaine by scoring for the Eagles. Then, just for a little extra insurance, Alexander Babich (Chicago, IL) scored with three minutes left in the game to put the Saints up 6-1.
The Spruce Grove Saints defeated the Canmore Eagles by a final score of 6-1. Spruce Grove will now head over to Okotoks to face off against the Oilers in a Saturday night tilt.
