By Terry Martin

The Saints and Pontiacs faced off for the last time as Spruce Grove looked to take the regular season series. The Pontiacs are currently fighting for 2nd place in the North with the Oil Barons, sitting 4 points behind them. Bonnyville is also coming off a 3-0 win against the Crusaders on Saturday night. The Saints still sit 1st in the North as they continue to battle for the all important first round bye in playoffs.

Coster Dunn would open the scoring in the early part of the period, sneaking the puck through the arm of Matthew Hennessey to put the Saints up 1-0. Luigi Benincasa would then fire the puck blocker side on a partial break to put the Saints up 2-0. With that goal, Benincasa extends his goal scoring streak to 4 games. Justin Stathopoulos would cut the lead in half, scoring for the Pontiacs with 6:03 left in the 1st period. The Saints would be up 2-1 at the end of the 1st but down on the shot clock 11-17.

Matteo Giampa would open the scoring in the 2nd period, scoring for the Pontiacs to tie the game 2-2 with 15 minutes left. Both teams would keep up the great pace throughout the remainder of the frame with great opportunities going both ways. The Saints would catch up in shots after 20 minutes of play, just behind 21-22.

Cody Pisarczyk would find himself in front of the net, burying the rebound to retake the lead for the Saints just a couple minutes into the period. Charlie Russell would then score for the Pontiacs to tie the game 3-3 with 8:36 left in the game. The game would remain tied for the rest of the frame and both teams would head to overtime for the 2nd time in this season series.

Cade Mason would end the game 3 minutes into extra time and the Saints would win 4-3. They take the season series against the Pontiacs and come out on top in the shot department, 31-28.

The Saints extend their win streak to 4 games as they look forward to Military Appreciation night on Friday against the Drumheller Dragons for the final time this season.
