Kunyk Picks Up First Career Win, Saints Hammer Storm 8-1

In yesterday’s dominant performance by the Spruce Grove Saints, they defeated the Grande Prairie Storm by a final score of 8-1!

The first period was a wild ride with the Saints getting goals from five different players. Early into the game, Ewan McPherson (Edmonton, AB) scored to put Spruce Grove up by one. Three minutes after McPherson’s goal, Isaac Abbott (Halifax, NS) sniped one home to increase the Saints’ lead by two. Soon after, Keifer Miller (Banff, AB) scored off the rebound to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Then, just over the halfway point of the period, Brandon Spaulding (Agawam, MS) backhanded one in to put the Saints up by four. A minute after Spauldings’ goal, Alexander Babich (Chicago, IL) scored to end the period with the Saints leading 5-0!

The second period contained even more action! Twenty seconds into the period, Bailey Ewonus scored for the Storm to give them life. One minute after Ewonus’ goal, Liam Watkins (Okotoks, AB) netted one home to restore the Saints’ five-goal lead. Then, with just seven seconds left in the period, Luigi Benincasa (Edmonton, AB) dangled through the defense and put one home to conclude the period with the Saints leading 7-1.

With many penalties in the final period, there was just one goal; courtesy of Kadyn Chabot (Cranbrook, BC), who scored on the powerplay! The Saints marched on to defeat the Storm in an 8-1 conclusion.
