(Spruce Grove, AB) – Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today forward Junshi Hideshima has signed a Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

The Edmonton, Alberta native has developed this season with the Edmonton Jr. Oilers in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) U18 Division. Hideshima has tallied 30 points through 31 games played (14 goals, 16 assists). The Edmonton Jr. Oilers are currently 3rd place in the AEHL’s North Division, with a record of 16-9-2-5.

Prior to his time with the Edmonton Jr. Oilers, Hideshima played one season in the Hockey Super League (HSL) with Saints Pro Hockey Academy back in 2019-2020. Hideshima had an impressive campaign, putting up 48 points in 29 games played. He then went on to suit up for two seasons with the Canadian Athletic Club from 2020-2022 before ultimately joining the Edmonton Jr. Oilers for the current season.

Hideshima, who is listed at 5’6” and 140lbs, has played one game with the Saints this season. Suiting up for the blue and yellow on December 9th, 2022, where the Saints skated to a 2-0 win over the Brooks Bandits.

Head Coach Bram Stephen couldn’t be more excited to recruit Junshi for the upcoming season, saying, “Junshi is an exciting and dynamic player with extremely detailed habits in his game play. As a former Saints Pro Hockey Academy player and a two-year affiliated player for us, we’ve seen first hand, his fantastic character and commitment to the game and our organization.”

The Spruce Grove Saints are currently first in the AJHL North Division, with a record of 37-7-2. The Saints are currently in the middle of a three-game road trip, finishing up Friday in Whitecourt. Spruce Grove will then return home for three games next week, taking on the Olds Grizzlys on Feb 7th, the Camrose Kodiaks on Feb 10th and the Canmore Eagles on Feb 11th.
