Lindenwood University commit Ryan Johnstone, hailing from Pickering, ON, secured the decisive goal, leading the Spruce Grove Saints to a 2-1 victory over the Camrose Kodiaks!
In the first period, just past the halfway mark, Will Brophy from Worcester, MA, cleared the puck down the ice to kill off a penalty. While the puck was in the Kodiak’s zone, Charlie Zolin mishandled it, allowing Carter Oakenfold from Calgary, AB, to score a shorthanded goal. Shortly thereafter, Johnstone netted his second goal in three games, giving the Saints a two-goal advantage.
As the game entered its final moments, with less than three minutes remaining, Carter Matthews scored for the Kodiaks, narrowing the gap to just one goal. Zolin was then pulled from the game with 2:30 left on the clock in a bid to tie the game for Camrose. Nevertheless, the Saints displayed unwavering resilience and successfully defended their lead, ultimately securing the 2-1 triumph!
