Jayden Davis Scores Three As Saints Defeated Wolverines 5-2

By Terry Martin

The Saints and Wolverines faced off for the second time this week after winning 7-4 back in Whitecourt on Tuesday. Spruce Grove sits 2nd in the North just 3 points behind the Oil Barons, while the Wolverines are 5th place.

The first goal would come from Jayden Davis, picking up the rebound shot on the 2 on 1 opportunity. The Saints would spend most of their time in the Wolverines zone through the period, getting more “Grade A” chances overall. Luigi Benincasa would then finish off a great passing play that was started by Caiden Gault to put the Saints up 2-0 with 3 minutes to go in the period. The Saints would triple the Wolverines in shots 18 to 6 after 20 minutes of play.

The Wolverines would battle back with some offensive time of their own as they outshot the Saints in the first half of the second period. The Saints would be the ones to strike first however, as Jayden Davis would score his 2nd of the game with 8 minutes remaining. Logan Acheson would then score from the blueline with a seeing eye shot. Tyler Mahan would then put the Wolverines on the board with just a few seconds left to play. The Saints would still lead on the scoreboard and in shots 29-19 after 40 minutes of play.

Both teams would trade chances back and forth throughout the 3rd period with lots of up and down action. Alex Dominique would score for the Wolverines in this period, tipping home a point shot on their power play opportunity. The Saints would hold off the Wolverines push and Jayden Davis would also add an empty net goal for his hat trick. The Saints would win 5-2 and would also lead in shots 37-32 after 60 minutes.

The Saints are back at the Grant Fuhr Arena tomorrow night against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons for this month’s feature game!
