(Spruce Grove, AB) ? General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today that Ian Gordon will join the Saints as the goaltending coach for the up coming 2019-2020 season.
?The entire Saints organization would like to welcome Ian Gordon as our new goaltending coach.? Exclaimed Skalruk. ?We are thrilled that Ian has come aboard to guide Matty (Matthew Davis) and the rest of our up and coming goalie prospects for years to come.?
Gordon, a native of North Battleford, SK, who now resides in Edmonton, enjoyed an 18-year professional hockey career that took him all the way from the AHL?s Saint Johns Flames to a 13 year stint between 3 teams in Germany?s top professional league (DEL) with a few stops in between.
Sklaruk see?s a huge opportunity for Saints goaltenders to learn from such an experienced individual in Gordon.
?Ian had a tremendous pro career and has used his playing experience and passion for the technical side of goaltending to become one of the top goalie coaches in North America. Our goaltenders will benefit greatly from Ian and what he can teach them. Bram, myself and the whole coaching staff are looking forward to watching Ian develop our players.? Sklaruk finished.
Saints ownership is very familiar Gordon as he has been the goalie coach of the Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL), the other junior hockey team they own, for the past 6 seasons. Most notably mentoring and aiding in the meteoric rise of recently drafted Thunderbirds goaltender Roddy Ross, who was drafted by the Philadelphia flyers, 169th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Gordon then gave his thoughts on becoming a Saint.
?It was a natural fit to join the Saints, it lines up really well after working with Dan, Lindsey and their staff in Seattle. I am excited to further my relationship within their group and be part of the Saints portion as well.? Gordon continued.
?Working with goaltenders who are keen on advancing their careers while striving to obtain post secondary scholarships is extremely rewarding for me. I look forward to spending time developing the positional and mental skills of each goalie within the Saints organization. I would like to thank Dan, Lindsey and Rob for bringing me on board and can?t wait to get started.?
Gordon will begin his role immediately.
