In a game where Ryan De Kok (Lethbridge, AB) remained solid and steady, the Spruce Grove Saints defeated the Fort McMurray Oil Barons by a final score of 6-3.
At the eighth-minute mark of the first period, Marcus Fechko (Vernon Hills, IL) opened the scoring on a power play to put the Saints up 1-0. A few minutes later, Jason Huang scored to tie the game at one-a-piece.
Just under halfway through the middle frame, Nolan Struik (Stony Plain, AB) scored to restore the Saints’ one-goal lead. Less than a minute later, Huang got his second of the night to tie the game at 2-2. Then, with five minutes left in the period, Ty Broten (Chaska, MN) scored an unassisted goal to set the game at 3-2 for Spruce Grove. Soon after Broten’s goal, Alexander Babich (Chicago, IL) put one home to give the Saints a two-goal lead.
Early into the final period, Josh Polak (Calgary, AB) sniped one on net to put the Saints up 5-3. Then, with less than two minutes left in the game, Evan Arnold scored to bring the Oil Barons back within two. However, that celebration was short-lived as Hunter Bill (Green Bay, Wisconsin) got the empty-netter to seal the game.
The Saints went on to defeat the Oil Barons in a 6-3 conclusion.
