(Drayton Valley, AB) – In a game where Luigi Benincasa scored twice, the Spruce Grove Saints defeated the Drayton Valley Thunder 6-2 for their 9th straight win!
Early into the first period, James Bohn (Coquitlam, BC) and Luigi Benincasa (Edmonton, AB) both scored within one minute of each other to put the Saints up by two. Just a few minutes later, Alexander Babich (Chicago, Il) netted one home from an impossible angle to increase the Saints’ lead to three. Soon after the Saints third goal, Spruce Grove headed to the penalty box for tripping, which led to Gavin Middenndorf scoring for Drayton Valley. At the end of the first period, the score was 3-1 Saints.
Spruce Grove started the second period with Benincasa in the box for cross-checking, the Saints would successfully kill that penalty off and soon after, Benincasa broke out on a two-on-one and scored his second of the game! Three minutes after the Benincasa’s goal, Caden Cabana (Bonnyvillle, AB) got a rebound and tipped the puck home to increase the Saints’ lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes of play!
Isaac Suppin scored early into the third frame on the powerplay to bring the score to 5-2. Soon after Suppins’ goal, McPherson fired one top shelf to put the Saints’ lead back up to four, ending the game at 6-2 Saints.
The Saints will now hit the road for a south division swing, taking on the Brooks Bandits on Friday night, and the Drumheller Dragons on Saturday night! Fans can catch both games on the Saints Radio Network (mixlr.com/sprucegrovesaints) starting at 6:45pm.
