Benincasa Nets Four Points As Saints Defeat Pontiacs 6-2 To Take 2-0 Series Lead

The Spruce Grove Saints face off against the Bonnyville Pontiacs in game two of the AJHL North Division Finals Friday night.

Luigi Benincasa (Edmonton, AB) got four points as the Spruce Grove Saints took game two with a 6-2 win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs! 

In a fast-paced first period, the only goal belonged to Brandon Spaulding (Agawam, MS), who put one home with just one second left to put the Saints up 1-0! 

Just under halfway through the middle frame, Liam Watkins (Okotoks, AB) scored a powerplay goal to give the Saints a two-goal lead. Soon after, Jack Budd netted one home to cut the Saints’ lead in half. A few minutes after Budds’ goal, Trey Funk scored for the Pontiacs to tie the game at two-a-piece. Just over a minute later, Kadyn Chabot (Cranbrook, BC) also scored on the powerplay to take back the lead for the Saints! Then, with two minutes left in the period, Ewan McPherson (Edmonton, AB) put one home to put the Saints up 4-2! Less than a minute after McPherson’s goal, Benincasa got his first of the night to end the period with the Saints up by three. 

Halfway through the final period, Benincasa scored his second of the night to put the Saints up 6-2. The Spruce Grove Saints would then defeat the Bonnyville Pontiacs by a final score of 6-2 to take game two of the North Division Final!
