AJHL/CJHL Cancels All Remaining Games for the 2020 Playoffs and National Championship

(Spruce Grove, AB) – The Spruce Grove Saints and the entire Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) have canceled all remaining games for the 2020 Playoffs and National Championship. This decision ultimately concludes with no AJHL or National Junior ?A? Champion crowned for the 2019-2020 season.

A statement was released today, March 13th, 2020 by the CJHL and it?s President Brent Ladds and it read:

In further consultation with Hockey Canada, it was determined that the cancellation of the CJHL playoffs is an unavoidable outcome.

?We continue to align our direction, consistent with that of Hockey Canada, and support their overall direction completely.? said CJHL President Brent Ladds.

?We extend our extreme gratitude, understanding and commend the due diligence put forth by the CJHL?s Executive Board, each of our 10 league commissioners/presidents, their staffs and respective clubs and Hockey Canada in their commitment to safeguard all those involved in our wonderful game,? finalized Ladds.

Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk commented on today?s decision.

?This is obviously a very tough day for our players and staff along with all the remaining teams vying for their league championships and beyond.? Stated Sklaruk. ?I feel most for the graduating and 20-year-old players who won?t get the opportunity to go out on their own terms. After all they sacrifice to get to this point, it?s dejecting.? Sklaruk Continued.

?It?s a difficult time, we want to make sure that safety is put at the forefront, the decision by the CJHL does that and is one our organization supports fully even though it stings right now. More than anything through all of this, the Saints want to thank our players, coaches, staff and volunteers for the dedication and work they put into this season and thank our fans and corporate partners for their support. We?ll see you all next year.? Finished Sklaruk.

With that the Saints season comes to an abrupt end, with so much promise and excitement left to the unknown it?s a bitter pill to swallow. However, there are still so many memories this season brought that will last a lifetime. The organization wishes the best of luck to all graduating players in their future endeavours.
