Acheson Joins Saints D-core for 2019-20

(Spruce Grove, AB) – The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce that 2002 born defenceman Logan Acheson has signed a letter of intent for the 2019-2020 season.

Acheson becomes the 2nd player from the Knights of Columbus Pats Midget AAA program to sign a letter of intent with the Saints this season joining fellow teammate Graham Gamache for next season. In 33 games played with the Pats, Acheson posted 8 goals, 13 assists for 21 points accompanied with 18 penalty minutes.

Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk had high praise for Acheson, a very well-rounded defensemen for his age.

“Logan had a very strong season in midget and proved to be an excellent affiliated player for us this season. He has a very high hockey IQ, which is something our group covets. He makes a great first pass and boxes out in front of the net at an elite level.” Sklaruk continued.

“Logan is a solid skater who moves very well laterally along the blue line with an ability to use his above average release to get pucks through. He excels at both ends of the rink, we are excited that Logan has committed to our program.”

The 5’11” 173 lbs Edmonton native appeared in 14 AJHL games as an affiliated player with the Saints, collecting 2 assists and 4 pims while impressing the Saints coaches and management with his poise and defensive acumen for a rookie defenceman.

Head coach Bram Stephen sees huge value in adding a rookie with nearly a quarter season of junior hockey under his belt.

“With our injuries on the back-end Logan was able to come in and be part of our group for an extended amount of time which was huge for the coaches and Logan to become very comfortable with one another. He made an immediate impact, playing significant minutes in a position that is hard for younger players to step into. With the experience Logan gained this season we anticipate it will allow him to hit the ground running next year.” Stephen continued.

“Logan’s play gave our coaching staff full confidence in his ability to excel within our system and execute at the level we require to have team and individual success. He has earned every opportunity with hard work and attention to detail, he is a great kid with a bright future. We look forward to working with and helping in his development to become a top tier junior defenceman and beyond.”

The Saints would like to welcome Logan and the Acheson family to the team.
