(Spruce Grove, AB) – Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced today the club has acquired defenseman James Bohn from the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in exchange for a player development fee.
Bohn, a veteran blueliner, joins the Saints after spending the previous three seasons in the BCHL, splitting time between the Coquitlam Express, Prince George Spruce Kings and the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Overall, James played 122 games in the BCHL, compiling six goals, 29 assists for 35 points and 43 penalty minutes.
Prior to his time in the British Columbia Hockey League, Bohn developed at the Pursuit of Excellence Academy in Kelowna, BC. He played two seasons with the program, culminating in a Canadian Sport School Hockey League Championship at the U15 level in 2016-2017.
The 20-year-old left-handed shot blueliner is listed at 6’0, 190lbs and will join the Saints prior to the start of the 2022-2023 training camp, which begins Saturday, August 27th at the Grant Fuhr Arena in Spruce Grove.
General Manager Rob Sklaruk spoke about the big acquisition, saying, “James is a steady, reliable, intelligent defenseman. He processes a highly skilled first past, skates extremely well and will bring a veteran presence to our organization both on and off the ice.”
An exited James spoke about joining the Saints for this upcoming season, saying, “I’m extremely excited to spend my 20-year-old season in Spruce Grove. Everything I’ve heard about this organization is that it’s first class. Looking forward to getting things started this weekend!”
The Saints would like to welcome James and the Bohn family to the organization.
Spruce Grove will open the 2022-2023 season with a home and home against the Sherwood Park Crusaders. Starting the season on September 16th in Sherwood Park and returning to the Grant Fuhr Arena for the home opener on September 17th.
